Windham shuts down St. John behind 21 points from Carlos Bruton

Windham, OH- On Tuesday night the Windham Bombers hosted a league game as they welcomed in the St. John Fighting Heralds into Marty Hill Court. The Bombers came in at 7-4 winners of three straight while St. John was 3-7 coming off a home loss to Pymatuning Valley.

Windham got off to a strong start employing a full court press and trap that caused multiple turnovers by the Fighting Heralds and helped the Bombers open up a quick 8-0 lead. After a St. John timeout Bombers big man Zack Turk scored back to back buckets down low making it a 12-0 run to start the game. St. John finally ended the drought on a Matt Miller 3-ball with 2:30 to play in the first quarter. Windham had the lead 16-8 after one.

Miller struck again from deep for the Fighting Heralds to start the 2nd quarter cutting the Bombers lead to 5 at 16-11. The teams exchanged three's as Carlos Bruton hit one from deep for Windham followed by another 3 from Matt Miller again cutting the Bomber lead to 5 at 21-16 with 5:00 to play in the half. Windham then went on a 14-0 run to close the half and take a 35-16 lead. Carlos Bruton led the Bombers with 12 first half points. Matt Miller scored 11 of the Fighting Heralds 16 first half points.

The third quarter started just like the second quarter ended as the Bombers scored the first 11 points of the second half extending their scoring run to 25 straight points. It was finally put to and end at the 5:00 mark of the third on a bucket by St. John forward Tom Miller. By that point Windham had built a commanding 46-18 lead. The two teams were even up the rest of the quarter as Windham held a 54-26 lead heading into the final quarter.

St. John started the fourth on a 7-2 run but the deep hole was to much to overcome. They outscored the Bombers 14-6 in the quarter led by 7 points from Matt Miller. Windham preserved their double digit lead as they prevailed 60-42 behind some solid offense and stingy defense that forced double digit turnovers by the Fighting Heralds.

The Bombers were led by Carlos Bruton who dropped in 21 points and three long balls. Senior center Zack Turk had a double/double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 2 blocked shots. Chase Eye was also solid with 15 points.

Matt Miller was big for the Fighting Heralds scoring 20 points while Vincent Narducci chipped in 13 points.
