Berkshire says "C-ya" in 3-0 win over Crestwood.

Burton OH-A pair of 9-win CVC teams faced off on Tuesday. The 9-5 Crestwood Red Devils ventured to play the 9-3 Berkshire Badgers. A game that meant a bit more to Berkshire as back on the 4th of August the lawn rock out front of Berkshire High School was painted red with "C-ya 9/26", setting this one up to be interesting.



Kate Miller and the Badgers served first, but it was the Red Devils taking the lead to start. Taking a quick 3-1 lead was Crestwood, being aided by a Berkshire error. The Red Devils found some real breathing room, leading 8-3 early on in set 1. Berkshire responded well to cut their deficit down to 2. Hannah Hutchinson spiked went out of play adding onto the Crestwood lead. A hard fought first set from Berkshire as they trailed for most of the early going, eventually climbing back to knot us up at 12. Maddie and Jill Smetana both picked up kills in the process. Hutchinson made up for the earlier error as her kill evened the score.



As the Badgers took the lead, they never looked back. Maddie Smetana and Kirsten Shaffer added on with kills of their own, Shaffer's forcing a Red Devil timeout as they trailed 19-17. Just moments after her kill, Shaffer rejected Hannah Ward as Berkshire took a 4 point advantage.



Berkshire was able to run away with the first set, winning 25-20 as Jill Smetana's tip capped off the Badger win.



Abby Guyette served first but Maddie Dustman's error put Berkshire on top to start set 2. A huge start for the Badgers as they forced a Crestwood timeout as the Red Devils were starting at a 14-4 deficit. Berkshire took this 10 point lead aided by Crestwood hitting errors, along with kill from Hayley Stoddard and Maddie Smetana. Smetana and Kirsten Shaffer combined for a denial fresh off the Crestwood timeout.



With the score sitting at 18-9, Berkshire took the lead back up to 10, both Audrey Fusci and Zoe Babnik made great efforts for digs, but Sammi Winter set up Mariss Rish for the kill that gave the Badgers a double-digit lead.



Crestwood was forced to call another 2nd set timeout as Hayley Stoddard denied Dustman to but Berkshire up 24-10.



Following the Crestwood timeout and block from Stoddard, Marissa Rish served up an ace to cap off a dominant 2nd set for the Badgers. Berkshire wins set 2 25-10 as they take a 2-0 lead in the match.



Jill Smetana started set 3 with a kill to put the Badgers up early. Berkshire picked up another ace, this time from Stoddard that forced a Red Devil timeout.



Despite the solid start from Berkshire, Crestwood was able to hang around, cutting their deficit down to two off a Jill Smetana error, only trailing 10-8. From then on, it was all Badgers. A big 15-5 run thrusted the Badgers into victory. Rish and Stoddard collected kills on the way. Despite Maddie Walter's serve falling short as the Red Devils found themselves behind 21-11. Stoddard's tip set the Badgers up at 24.


Kirsten Shaffer capped off set 3 with a block to end it. Berkshire winning set 3, 25-13 & sweeping the Red Devils. The Badgers improve to 10-3, and will travel to Kirtland and face the CVC juggernaut Hornets on Thursday.
