Bobcats 5-run 4th propels them to 8-4 District Semi-Final win over Bruins

Twinsburg OH- Monday evening brought District Semi-Final baseball to us. The Padua Bruins (12-14) met the Norwayne Bobcats (16-4-1) for an OHSAA Baseball District Tournament matchup.

Ashton Snyder started on the hill for Norwayne, and his counterpart Micheal Niro took the bump for Padua.

Jacob Duliba collected the Bruins first hit with his one-out triple to left. Moments later Lucas Palange put Padua on the board with an RBI single. Yuri Ballina and Adam Mindzora were both sat down to end the inning. Regardless of a one-out single from Beau Polen, no further hitters would reach, sending us to the 2nd with the Bruins up 1-0.

Micheal Niro´s walk and Matt Lowe´s single had the train moving for Padua with one out. Snyder worked his way out of a jam keeping the score 1-0. Three consecutive hits for Norwayne would give them a 2-1 lead. Logan Dichler and Mike Steingass both singled, and Eli Stanley's two-run triple gave the Bobcats the lead. With Stanley on 3rd, Tanner would drive him in with an RBI groundout. Niro worked through the rest of the innings without allowing any further damage.

Duliba got the Bruins moving with a leadoff double in the 3rd. With two outs Mindzora was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, but the momentum would come to a screeching hault as Moscarino grounded out to end the inning. Niro would collect his first strikeout of the night en route to a 1-2-3 3rd inning.

Niro's leadoff walk amounts to nothing as back to back fielders choices and a groundout put the inning on ice for Padua. Norwayne would blow it wide open in the 4th inning, bringing five runners across. Dichler reached on an error, and Steingass would advance him to 3rd on a single. Both runners would score and Stanley reached on another Padua error. Tanner's double drove in Stanley to make it 6-1 Bobcats. Luke Faircloth bunted and reached with an error that scored Tanner. Niro recorded the first out of the inning before hitting Polen. An RBI single from Gill would bring home the final run of the inning. Niro retired the last hitter of the evening as Norwayne now led 8-1.

Padua would come storming back by scoring three runs to cut the lead down to four. Duliba reached on a HBP, Palange singled and both runners would score on Yuri Ballina's two-run triple plated the first two runs of the inning. Mindzora's RBI groundout plated the 3rd run for the Bruins. Snyder worked out of the inning without allowing further damage. Steingass doubled to lead it off in the 5th. No further baserunners followed. 8-4 Norwayne after five.

Both teams would go down 1-2-3 in the 6th. Padua coming to bat in hopes of keeping their season alive.

Brayden Harklau would continue in the 7th in his 2nd inning of work. Besides a hit batter and basehit, Padua was held a bay. Harklau struck out Niro to end the game and advance Norwayne to the next round to face the Kenston Bombers.

Micheal Niro took the loss on the bump tonight. In three innings he allowed seven hits and gave up four earned runs, with a strikeout to boot. Lucas Palange took over on the hill in the 4th. Through his three innings he allowed just one hit.
