Bronny James homecoming spoiled as St. Vincent St. Mary bests Sierra Canyon 67-61

Columbus, OH - In the home of the Blue Jackets, the (3-1) St. Vincent St. Mary Fighting Irish faced off against the (7-1) Sierra Canyon Trailblazers in the fifth and most anticipated game of the annual Ohio Play By Play Classic.

To start the game off, it was back and forth the whole time, both teams scoring, but also making mistakes.

Jimmy Oladokun for Sierra posted the first four points of the game, but the real star of the first quarter was Isaiah Elohim putting up six points for the Trailblazers and leading them to a 15 point quarter.

The same story for the Fighting Irish, as they were able to put up a trio of three pointers from Kyle Hamilton, Jayson Walker and Torell Hopson as we were tied at 15 after one.

Entering the second quarter both teams were looking to pull away. Sierra Canyon was on fire at the start, as Elohim kept scoring on breakaways as SVSM kept turning the ball over.

Luckily for the Fighting Irish they were able to keep their composure and stay calm, while they figured out a way to slow down the Trailblazers and put points on the board. With a couple of free throws from Lance Hayes and him running the court, SVSM was able to take the lead 29-27 going into halftime.

Coming into the second half you could tell the Fighting Irish wanted this more than anything, putting up a quick five points.

Instantly there was a shift in momentum to the Trailblazers who scored eight unanswered points, six of which came from Bronny James as the Fighting Irish lead fell apart.

Fortunately for the Fighting Irish they fought back, as Kyle Hamilton and Jayson Walker each scored a three and the team scored 18 in the third taking a 46-42 lead into the fourth.

To start the fourth both teams look exhausted offensively, as four minutes into the fourth quarter both teams had scored less than 5 points.

The Fighting Irish really fought hard to be in the lead in a game that could have went either way. Kyle Hamilton went 10 out of 10 for free throws in the fourth, propelling his team into victory after a tightly contested matchup.

Player of the game for St. Vincent St. Mary was Kyle Hamilton with 20 points and going 100% from the free throw line.

Player of the game for Sierra Canyon was Isiah Elohim scoring 22 points and nearly leading a victory over SVSM. Bronny James finished with 7 points.
