The Wickliffe Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team traveled to Geauga County to take on their CVC conference opponent, the Berkshire Badgers on Saturday afternoon.
In an extremely intense and hard fought game, the Blue Devils stayed focused throughout and were able to hold off the Badgers 4th quarter comeback attempt.
The Badgers made a great effort to comeback as they cut the lead to 54-51 with 12 seconds left. However, the Blue Devils then went to the line and sealed a 55-51 victory.
Wickliffe got out to an early 12-9 first quarter lead as they were led by junior guard Walter Cable who had seven first quarter points.
In the second quarter, Wickliffe and Berkshire both scored 12 points as Wickliffe took a 24-21 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Wickliffe outscored Berkshire by three points to take a seven point advantage into the fourth quarter.
Cable led the Blue Devils in the third quarter as he scored ten points. In addition, Andrew Rossman and Jimmy Wheeler added three pointers in the quarter.
Leading 42-36 heading into the final quarter, Wickliffe scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 55-51. Down the stretch, in the fourth quarter, Cable had two, two-point field goals and was 4-5 at the line to help lead the Blue Devils to victory. In addition, Nunzio Zivnoska had a clutch three pointer in the fourth quarter.
For the game, the Blue Devils were led offensively by Cable (27 points), Wheeler (8), Ryan Latkovich (7), Andrew Rossman (5), Demario Donner (3), Nunzio Zivnoska (3), and Jimmie Feaster (2).
Berkshire was led offensively by Gavin Hipp (19), Jack Hastings (17), Cameron Beam (10), Luke Stute (3), and Mason Mendolera (2).
Wickliffe returns to the court on Tuesday, January 9th when they take on Crestwood.
Berkshire will next play Cardinal, also on Tuesday night.
