Guarding the Farm Report: Week 4

Lynchburg Hillcats (Low A)


The Hillcats sit at 13-13 on the season. This past week was disrupted by inclement weather as they had 4 postponements resulting in 2 double headers and only 5 games for the week. They went 2-3 vs Fredericksburg. They are hitting .239 as a team and doubled their season output in HR”s this week with three. Their pitching continues to be pretty solid as they are 4th in the league with a team ERA of 3.92 and 3rd in the league with 94 runs allowed in 26 games. Let’s take a look at the individual top performers.

Lake County Captains (High A)


Lake County is currently 12-14 on the season. They also dealt with weather issues having 3 postponements. The Captains went 2-3 at Dayton for the week. Offense continues to be an issue as they rank 11th out of 12 in team average (.211) and runs scored (93). The pitching continues to be stellar as they are 2nd in team ERA (3.20) and 1st in earned runs allowed (71). Here are their top performers.

Highlight of the week: Gavin Williams dominant again: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K - 81 pitches - 50 strikes at Dayton 5/7/22.



Akron Rubberducks (AA)


The Ducks are hovering just over .500 at 14-13 through 27 games. They split a 6-game series at Richmond this past week dropping the first three and winning the final three. A new healthy Joey Cantillo picked up 2 wins in the series. Akron is still near the bottom offensively with a .215 AVG (11th) and 110 runs scored (9th). The pitching staff holds a team ERA of 3.86 (6th) and has allowed 101 earned runs (7th). Ace pitcher Daniel Espino was placed on the 7-day IL (patellar tendinitis in right knee) and is expected to miss a few weeks. Here are the top performers.

P- Tanner Burns: 1.69 ERA, 21.1 IP, 14 H, 4 ER, 11 BB, 27 K, .187 AVG

P- Hunter Gaddis: 2.57 ERA, 21 IP, 18 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 31 K, .225 AVG

P- Kevin Kelly: 0.55 ERA, 16.1 IP, 11 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 20 K, .177 AVG

P- Andrew Misiaszek: 0.57 ERA, 15.2 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 27 K, .154 AVG

Columbus Clippers (AAA)


The Clippers are 18-12 through 30 games but have lost four straight after going 2-4 this past week at Omaha. Columbus is hitting .246 as a team. They are 2nd in the league in HR's with 44 and 3rd in runs scored with 175. They have held their own on the pitching side with a 3.92 team ERA good for 5th in the league and 113 earned runs allowed also good for 5th. Let's see who's doing well individually for the Clipshow.
