Middlefield OH- On Tuesday evening the Cardinal Huskies (0-2) hosted their home opener against the LaBrae Vikings (2-0)
LaBrae would serve and score first and before the Huskies knew it they were quickly looking at a 5-0 deficit. A hit from Carissa Loucks would get the Huskies on the board down 7-1. The Vikings began to pull-away and would run away with set one by a score of 25-19. An illegal hit put Cardinal in front to start set two. With the score tied at 6 Riley Rowe's spike thrusted the Vikings into the lead. From that point on LaBrae would cruise to a set 2 victory backed by a 18-5 run, winning the set 25-11. The Huskies were in need of a good start in set 3 to keep the match going. Rylee McDonough came through with a bigtime block on a spike attempt that tied the game at 5.
Cardinal and LaBrae continued to exchange blows, with the score sitting at 22-19 the Vikings took a timeout. LaBrae came out of the timeout swinging forcing a Huskie timeout as Cardinal was clinging to a 24-23 lead. Taylor Burns denied Maggie Grant's hit, as the ball dropped on the Huskies side of the night, LaBrae tied it up at 24.
As if the Vikings defense hadn't been superb all night, coming up with huge plays time and time again. The biggest play of them all sealed the victory, Ella Kuszmaul rejected Morgan Csontos for the win. The Vikings defeat the Huskies 26-24 in set 3, winning the match 3-0.
The Vikings improve to 3-0 on the year, and look ahead to Thursdays road matchup against the 3-0 Garfield Lady G-Men. Cardinal drops to 0-3 and will host the Chagrin Falls Tigers on Saturday.
