Lear Leads West Geauga to 72-57 Victory Over Kenston

Chagrin Falls - The West Geauga Wolverines Boys Basketball team traveled to Chagrin Falls on Tuesday night to take on the Kenston Bombers.


After a close first quarter, the Wolverines pulled away behind the strong performance of junior standout Landon Lear as they defeated Kenston, 72-57.


After the game, West Geauga Head Coach Micah Young talked about Lear's 30 point performance which led the Wolverines to victory.

“I mean he's unguardable,” said Coach Young.

“He's a three level scorer. He can get to the the rim, he can hit mid-range, and he can hit three’s.”
“It's hard to guard him.”

And right away in the first quarter, Lear showed his ability to get to the rim and hit mid-range and long range three point shots.


With Lear leading the way, West Geauga took a 21-18 lead after the first quarter.


The second quarter saw both teams tighten up their defense and the pace of the game slowed down. 


In a much lower scoring second quarter, West Geauga outscored Kenston 13-7 to take a 32-25 lead heading into halftime.  


Lear also led the Wolverines in the second quarter as he added eight points and Ryan Mobley added four points for the Wolverines.


After halftime, both teams played at a quick pace as West Geauga extended their lead by outscoring Kenston 21-14 in the third quarter.


Taking a 55-37 lead into the fourth quarter, West Geauga extended their lead to 20 points with under seven minutes remaining in the game.  


In the fourth quarter, the Bombers outscored the Wolverines 18-17 to make the final score 72-57.


For the game the leading scorer for the Wolverines was Landon Lear who had 30 points.


Lear believed that the Wolverines played well on both ends of the floor.

“I shot the ball very well tonight and attacked the rim,” said Lear.

Lear who scored 30 points, on 10-20 (50 percent) from the field also had six rebounds.

In addition, West Geauga was  also led by Colin Whiting who had 19 points, and Carson Weisman with 9 points.

For the game, the Kenston Bombers were led by Tymir Cardona (10 points), Jackson Allotta (9 points), and Chris Collins and Tommy Seifried (7 points).


With the victory, the Wolverines move to 2-0 on the season for the first time since the 2015-2016 season.


The Wolverines next play Geneva on Saturday while Kenston will next face Berea-Midpark on Friday.
