Mount Union Overwhelms Wilmington 69-0

Wilmington, OH- The Mount Union Purple Raiders made the journey to south-central Ohio Saturday afternoon to take on the Wilmington Quakers in an OAC battle on the gridiron. Wilmington entered the day averaging a tick over 34 points per game with QB Derek Larimer leading the OAC in touchdown passes. The Purple Raiders defense was more than up for the challenge that, on paper, the Quaker offense would present.

On the games opening drive, Mount Union forced a fumble on a completed pass in their own territory. Safety Brandon Yanssens poked the ball loose and fellow Safety Ian Sexton was there to corral the loose ball.

The Raiders offense took to the air and capped the 3-play 25-yard drive drive with a 10-yard completion from Braxton Plunk to Nick Turner.

On the afternoon, Plunk was 15 of 18 for 291 yards and 4 touchdowns, finding Wayne Ruby Jr. twice for scores. The other touchdown throw from Plunk was of the 72-yard catch and run variety to Tyrell Sanders down the right sideline.

The Wilmington defense was stymied by both air and ground, as 4 different running backs found the end zone with Tyler Echeverry scoring twice.

The Purple Raider defense pitched their 4th shutout on the season, and have held their opponents to 3 points in the last 4 weeks. In that span, Mount Union has outscored their opposition 221-3. The victory moves the Purple Raiders to 7-0 on the season, 6-0 in OAC play.

Mount Union returns to Keheres Stadium next Saturday when they welcome the Otterbein Cardinals for another OAC showdown. Kick-off is set for 1:30 pm.
