Rootstown Rovers Roll Champion 41-0

Rootstown, OH- Following a one-day postponement after severe weather ripped through much of Northeast Ohio overnight Thursday into Friday, the Rootstown Rovers played host to the Champion Golden Flashes Saturday evening. In front of a packed home side at Robert C. Dunn Field, the Rovers relied on the running game to power past the Flashes.

Leading the way for the Rovers was senior Running Back Dawson Morgan, who scored twice (9 & 7 yard runs) on the evening while amassing 220 yards on 25 attempts. Through the air, it was junior Nick Malek hauling in a touchdown from senior QB Ryan Piscitani from 22 yards out. On the following play from scrimmage following the point after attempt and kickoff, it was Malek again reaching pay dirt, this time on a scoop and score, extending the Rover lead to 26-0, which would be the score at the half.

Champion had no answer for the Rovers, totaling only 85 yards on the night, while the Rovers ended the evening just shy of the 400 mark, coming in at 397. The victory moves the Rovers to 2-0 on the season, as they look ahead to a road bout with the Field Falcons. The loss drops Champion to 0-2, as they head home to play host to the Southeast Pirates next Friday evening.
