TALLMADGE, OH- At home for the Tallmadge High School Blue Devils, hosting the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings both teams hoped to extend their playoff push past tonight, but only one would advance.
The Vikings won the coin toss and were hoping for a statement drive to start the game but fell short and ended their drive going three and out.
On their second drive, the Blue Devils quarterback Ty Hurst let the football fly and connected with his receiver Collin Dixon for a 71-yard touchdown to put them up 7-0.
Vikings were looking to even the score but punted their next 3 drives in a row before running back Lamar “Bo” Jackson broke away for a 41-yard rushing touchdown to put the Vikings on the board to tie the game 7-7.
After multiple penalties on the defense the Blue Devils’ kicker, Cameron Carvaines, was able to put a 32-yard field goal through the uprights to re-take the lead, 10-7.
The Vikings came back out and started moving down the field with ease before quarterback Kylan Steuball threw an interception to defensive back Caleb Reifsynder.
Fired up, the Blue Devils went back onto the field looking to score, but sadly couldn’t put the ball in the end zone and went into halftime up 10-7.
Entering the 2nd half the Blue Devils started with the ball and a few explosive plays getting them all the way down to the 5-yard line but had to settle for a field goal extending their lead 13-7.
Trying to strike back, the Vikings were driving but turned the ball over on downs giving Tallmadge another chance.
Fired up after the turnover, the Blue Devils drove right down the field and running back Jackson Dougherty powered the ball into the end zone. They converted the two point conversion sealing the game away at 21-7.
Tallmadge Blue Devils are now 9-2 heading into their second week of the playoffs where they will face off against high flying Youngstown Ursuline who took down Hawken 43-12.
